Macclesfield campus receives extra protection

A total of £1.4 million has been invested in the enhancement of a pharmaceutical site in Macclesfield.

AstraZeneca spent the money on an electrical facility. This employs high voltage equipment to ensure that the onsite manufacturing systems can still operate if the ordinary power supply is unexpectedly disrupted.

The Switchroom was designed and built by the same unit. Electricity North West’s Customer Network Solutions delivered the project for AstraZeneca. Printing services are useful when organisations want to promote their achievements, especially if they contribute to significant markets. Mike Haniak is the head of the team and he told Business Manchester:

“AstraZeneca’s existing electricity switchgear had been successfully keeping the company’s production lines moving but, to maintain that protection for years to come, some of that electrical hardware needed to be replaced.”

Des Belford, who is an engineering manager at AstraZeneca, commented on the development. He confirmed the importance of having a reliable power supply on a permanent basis.

Belford pointed out that the entire Macclesfield 33kV initiative has been a major success. He indicated that the implementation process had been a complicated matter. If the site had been obliged to shut, then the consequences would have been negative for AstraZeneca. The drug supply for British and international markets could not have been maintained if this scenario had played out.
