Top comedian to play anniversary show in Leicester

A comedian who has become famous for his musical alter ego is set to celebrate four decades in the business next month, by playing a live gig at a festival in Leicester.

Graham Fellows is more widely known as John Shuttleworth, the guise in which he performs his comic songs and monologues. It is as the hapless musician that he will appear at the upcoming Leicester Comedy Festival. This will mark his 40-year anniversary as an entertainer, and there is more to his career than some may realise.

Before he developed his most enduring character, Fellows had a brief stint as a pop star. In the late-1970s he scored a UK chart hit with the song ‘Gordon is a Moron’ under the stage name of Jilted John.

There is no doubt that Shuttleworth is his greatest creation though, and he has played the character in live shows as well as BBC television and radio programmes.

The venue for the festival will be De Montfort Hall in Leicester. If the organisers want to promote such an event, flyer printing from local shops is one option they have.

The new show from Fellows will focus on an incident during a Peak District gig when one of his fans was left hanging 100ft over the audience. It is sure to make for an eccentric experience at the festival on Saturday, February 8.
