Belvoir Street in the city centre is considered to be one of the major retail districts in Leicester. However, it has suffered a number of closures to both shopping and business outlets in recent times. Now, Leicester City Council has announced that it will be given a makeover at a cost of £300,000 as it looks to revitalise the street.
This work has now started and will continue for most of the rest of 2023, with a sizeable section of the street being closed off to traffic for the duration of it. According to BBC News, a council spokesperson stated that:
“The work involves replacing the existing footway surface with block paving to match materials used in recent revamps of nearby streets, such as Pocklingtons Walk and Horsefair Street.”
The spokesperson went on to add that the resurfacing was necessary because the wear and tear was severe.
However, the hope is also that it will make the street more attractive to companies and shops. There are useful Leicester outlets, including vendors that provide items such as printed Business Cards, for companies that base themselves there.
