Renowned as one of the best British live acts, the five-piece group incorporates influences of 1960s rock and blues into their music. Their third release, 1997’s Marchin’ Already, made it to number one in the UK album chart.
Fans heading to the venue will be anticipating renditions of classics from the landmark 1996 album Moseley Shoals, such as The Day We Caught the Train and The Riverboat Song. But the Birmingham band have released 9 more albums since that masterpiece, giving them plenty of material to choose from. In a recent review of their gig in Bristol, Scott Hammond of The Fix Magazine wrote:
“Though some may be surprised that the band have continued to release albums (there’s been five since the turn of the century), there’s a heavy leaning toward the Shoals material. It’s a stark reminder of the band at the height of their 90s powers, but there’s clearly still enough in the tank to play host to fine musical evenings as this.”
Ocean Colour Scene play at Leicester’s O2 Academy on Friday, 17th May. Standing tickets are available online, priced from £40.00. Leicester residents can expect to see a poster printing campaign in the city centre to promote the concert. Doors open at 7pm for the gig.
