Plans have been submitted to Leicester City Council for the construction of council houses at a site within the city that is currently occupied by an education centre.
Forest Lodge Education Centre is on Charnor Road in Leicester and is no longer in use. It originally served as a nursery, before being turned into a corporate conference and training facility, but it has been lying empty for the past six years. The council gave the nod last summer to proposals for it to be knocked down and now homes could be built in its place.
The site is owned by the council and it has marked it down as suitable for building housing on, suggesting that these new proposals are likely to get the green light. The financing necessary for the work to begin is already in place too, having been secured three years ago.
If it does go ahead, it would see 33 council homes constructed. There would be four with four bedrooms, 12 with three bedrooms, 14 two-bedroom homes and three single bedroom ones. Councils sometimes use brochure printing by local shops to showcase their homes for rent.
The next stage in the process is set to be a consultation with the general public. This will run until the end of the month.
A final decision on the Plans has been scheduled for late September.
