The accommodation options for students in Leicester look set to be increased, with the news that a former office block could be converted into flats.
This block is situated on South Albion Street in the city and is called St John’s House. It was constructed back in the 1970s and has been used for a number of purposes over the years. The most recent occupiers were local NHS staff, but the building has been empty for some time. Now, a proposal to turn it into flats for students has been recommended for approval by Leicester City Council.
This decision was reached at a recent meeting of the Planning and Development Control Committee. However, there are conditions attached that the developer will have to meet, which concern financial contributions to the project.
If it gets the go ahead, over 140 flats will be available at the site. Flyer printing by Leicester shops can be useful to the owners of student accommodation, when they need to spread the word about its availability.
In addition to the flats, the finished development would boast a number of other amenities. These would include a ground floor gymnasium, spaces for studying, and communal lounge areas. There would also be green spaces created as part of it.
The identity of the developer behind the project has not yet been made available to the public.
