The five-day long celebration of Diwali is a key moment in the Hindu calendar.
The exact dates of Diwali vary from year to year, as it is determined by the Hindu lunar calendar, but it usually falls between October and November. This year, the celebrations for Diwali will start in Leicester on 29th October. Poster printing can help organisers to raise awareness about the events on offer.
Open to all members of the public, whether observant or not, the festival starts with the Diwali Lights Switch On, where music and dancing will take place on the Belgrave Road, ahead of a fireworks bonanza to wow the crowds until 9pm.
Diwali is known as the festival of light as it involves the lighting of oil lamps or diyas, candles and colourful lanterns. Continuing with the luminescent theme, the Diwali Wheel of Light will be in place until 12th November. The Ferris wheel takes riders on an illuminated journey 110 feet into the air for unparalleled views over the city.
Events culminate on 12th November when Diwali day will be celebrated with food stalls, music, fair rides and a striking laser light show. A host of other events are organised throughout this time along the Golden Mile. Free tickets can be booked online with local organisers, and there are small charges for performances and workshops.
