The transport policy is the responsibility of Leicestershire County Council and Leicester City Council. This partnership is in charge of the bus service. Almost a million people each year make bus trips from big car parks to the city centre. Blake Pain, a council cabinet member at Leicestershire County Council, has oversight in relation to transport and environmental issues. Councillor Pain told the Leicestershire Mercury:
“By the afternoon, the city centre car parks are usually very crowded, so using the Park and Ride means you don’t have to spend time driving around looking for an empty parking space.”
Councillor Pain confirmed that the afternoon deal was not exclusive to single adults. For the rest of August, purchasers of group tickets can also benefit from the arrangement. Councillor Pain suggested that the ordinary park and ride fares are set at a reasonable level.
