While natives may not be as showy as imported species, they offer many advantages in urban gandening, and a Brampton workshop will explain how, when and where they can be used.
Many people enjoy viewing native plants while they are out on one of the local community’s trails, they may not know there are many species that can thrive in an urban environment. Credit Valley Conservation’s Melanie Kramer will share her expertise during the workshop, and there is no cost to be included in the audience.
Kramer will discuss how to choose which native plants are best suited to a particular area, and also how to choose varieties and cultivars that attract bees, butterflies and other pollinators. They will also discover how to install their new garden additions so that they will be off to the best possible start in their new home.
Those from the local area who take part in the event and want to get started right away at using native plants can register to receive a free shrub or tree. This will be delivered to their home, and a representative from Credit Valley Conservation will help to plant it. Equipping those who take advantage of this sort of service with printed care sheets for their new plant can help them find gardening success, and Stationery printers can readily supply them.
The craft room at the South Fletchers Community Centre will be the venue for this learning opportunity, scheduled for April 27.
