Brampton to celebrate Mardi Gras musically

The Brampton On Stage series will pay tribute to the traditional Cajun holiday of Mardi Gras this February with its “Mardi Gras Mambo” concert.

The concert will feature a performance by the B-Jazzed Orchestra, who will be playing a variety of jazz and soul standards rooted in the musical traditions of New Orleans. The group is a Brampton-based ensemble that hosts the annual World of Jazz Festival, as well as over 100 other events in the Brampton area. The group says it has:

“A core vision of curating performances, promoting education, community engagement, and a respect for the various abilities and styles of jazz music and its musicians.”

Audiences will see over a dozen on-stage performers, including brass instruments, vocals and other jazz and soul standards. The B-Jazzed Orchestra will perform in festive beads and masks, drawing on the tradition of Carnival that often features elaborate outfits and colourful “krewes”, and audiences are invited to do the same.

“Mardi Gras Mambo” is a part of the Brampton On Stage series, which brings both local and international performers to the stage of the Rose Theatre. Mardi Gras and Carnival celebrations large and small take place around the world, often using banner printing and costumes to help identify local participants and add a sense of spice to the performance.

The “Mardi Gras Mambo” concert will take place on February 17 at The Rose Brampton Theatre.
