Brampton ballet to add Canadian spin

Ballet Jorgen will be visiting Brampton this December with its traditional performance of The Nutcracker, this time with a Canadian touch.

The ballet, which has become a holiday tradition in Canada and elsewhere, was composed by Tchaikovsky and tells the story of young Klara being whisked away into a magical world. This edition is staged by artistic director and choreographer Bengt Jorgen, with dancers from around the world performing as part of the Ballet Jorgen troupe.

This year’s collection will use projection and set dressing to feature iconic Canadian landscape painting from artists such as the Group of Seven and Tom Thompson in place of the traditional Russian winter setting. This new backdrop was created with support from Ontario’s McMichael Canadian Art Collection with the goal of emphasizing the country’s artistic heritage.

The ballet will take to the stage in Brampton for two consecutive nights as part of a holiday tour of Southern Ontario, also including cities such as Mississauga. Touring shows like this often undertake poster printing and work with local media advertisers to help attract customers in each community they visit. Promotional material for The Nutcracker encourages attendees to:

“Celebrate the season with stunning dance, rich visuals, and a joyful tribute to Canadian artistry.”

Ballet Jorgen’s 2025 production of The Nutcracker will take place at The Rose Theatre in Brampton on December 17 and 18.
