The event is an open mic aimed at young people aged 13 to 25. Participants can perform music, poetry, comedy, rap or any other performance talent. Pass the Mic will be headlined by singer and songwriter Ashabi and musical artist Ether2006, with other performers selected from the community. Anyone can register to book a slot.
This will be the fifth edition of the annual event, which is scheduled to conclude the National Youth Week programming in Brampton. Performances will be family-friendly with an eye to inclusivity. Pass the Mic aims to provide young creators with an energetic, receptive audience, with promotional material encouraging participants to:
“Celebrate youth creativity, build confidence and connect with a vibrant community of young artists with laid-back jazz vibes.”
The Heartbeats in Arts & Culture Co-Op, a student-run organization, plans and runs Pass the Mic as part of its educational work. Open mics and talent showcases like this often use poster printing and social media to help attract both performers and audience members.
The 2026 edition of Pass the Mic will take place at Snelgrove Community Centre in Brampton on the evening of May 8. Admission will be free.
