The history of the printing press

Any Print company in Brampton in Ontario is the modern-day beneficiary of one of the second millennium’s most influential and life-changing inventions: the printing press. The traditional definition of a printing press is just a mechanical system used to apply pressure to an inked surface, which rests on a medium that easily transfers ink, such as cloth or paper.

The first printing press goes back all the way to 593 A.D. when it was invented in China; the Chinese were also the first to produce a newspaper, first making it available in 700 A.D. in the city of Beijing. At that time, printing was still in its infancy, so it is unsurprising that the Chinese printed by using woodblock. The invention of movable type, too, must be credited to the Chinese, with the printer by the name of Bi Sheng actually coming up with movable type in 1041 A.D.

However, Johannes Gutenberg was the inventor of mechanical movable type printing in around 1441. His invention that was largely based on already established screw processes introduced the concept of modern book printing to the world.

So when you step inside any Print company in Brampton, Ontario, and see them providing services such as offset printing for things like cards, Brochures, folders and in some cases even Apparel, know that all these services stem from the inventions and innovations of early printers like China’s Bi Sheng and Germany’s Johannes Gutenberg. Without their pioneering efforts, printing would not be where it is today.
