Peel Art Gallery celebrates the art of tattooing

The Peel Art Gallery Museum and Archives (PAMA) has two exhibits beginning in November which celebrate the art of tattoos.

The first will take place in the Art Gallery and has been given the name ‘Aba Bayefsky: the Tattoo Series’. Bayefsky is known for creating pieces influenced by a mixture of tattoos and Japanese and Canadian art. The works are on loan from the artist’s family. In addition to the exhibit, there will be a curator talk and an opening reception.

The next exhibit is called ‘Inked: Tattoos and the Stories they Tell’. It features hundreds of images and stories which have been crowd-sourced by the organizers. Each story and image is designed to highlight the individuality and the artistry shown in many tattoos.

The two showcases might attract those from Brampton Print companies who seek inspiration from all kinds of art. With the current popularity of tattoos, no doubt many customers will be interested in how they can use them in their advertising.

Aba Bayerfsky: the Tattoo Series is taking place from November 3 to January 5, 2014. Inked: Tattoos and the Stories they Tell will be on show from November 16 until March 30, 2014.

Admission to PAMA is $4.50 for adults, $3.50 for students and seniors, $10 for a family of two adults and up to five children, and free for members and children under five. The facility is open seven days a week. For more information on either event, call 905-791-4055.
