The GTA cities of Mississauga and Brampton will soon be getting their own light rail service.
The 23 kilometer line will run north/south between the Port Credit GO station and the Brampton GO station, with 26 stops along the way. Two of these will be in Brampton, with another three being situated in downtown Mississauga.
The new service will provide connections to the existing rail and other transit services in the area, such as the Milton, Kitchener and Lakeshore West routes, as well as the Mississauga Transitway and the Brapton Zum. This will make it easier for commuters and other travelers to come into and out of the city, whether for work or leisure.
Along with the increase in the ease of travel, there may be more space for advertising in both the stations and on the trains themselves, which can be produced by a company that provides printing services.
The funding for the project will be coming largely from the provincial government, which is providing $1.6 billion for the construction of the rail system and stations.
According to Brampton’s mayor, Linda Jeffery, this will transform the Peel region, while Mayor Bonnie Crombie of Mississauga expressed similar feelings about the plans.
The construction is scheduled to start sometime in 2018, with the plan that it will be finished and ready for riders by 2022.
