The film Decoding Annie Parker is finally set to be released in April, two years after production finished.
The film is based on the life of Brampton resident Anne Parker, who developed breast cancer in the 1980s; the same disease that had killed her mother, sister, and her cousin.
Anne's family was one of the first in Canada to be tested for the BRCA-1 gene. Ms Parker also developed different cancers twice after her initial breast cancer diagnosis. In October of last year, she was awarded a CIBC Celebration of Hope Award for her dedication to finding the truth behind her family members’ conditions.
While Anne was discovering a genetic link within her family, geneticist Dr Mary-Claire King and her team were working on the belief there must be a genetic link to breast cancer. This film brings the two stories together to create a dramatic tale.
Dr King is played by Hollywood actress Helen Hunt and Annie Parker will be played by Samantha Morton. Other stars of the film include Bradley Whitford and Richard Schiff.
It is likely that once the film is released in Canada it will be shown in Brampton due to its links to the area. Printing companies will no doubt be helping provide movie Posters to market the film.
Decoding Annie Parker will have its premiere at the Directors Guild Theater in New York City on April 2. Tickets are $150 and any proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.
