A Canadian council recently unveiled its new Print industry standards to the world, and consequently, printing companies in Brampton may want to heed them. At the recently concluded Print World exhibition in Toronto, the Canadian Printing Industries Sector Council unveiled its Production Skills Support Standards.
The new standards are aimed at upholding a degree of quality among Canadian printers in the industry. Said standards, which have been both developed by as well as validated by the Print industry, outline exactly what an average Print employee ought to be capable of doing on the job and know.
The co-chairman of the council, Jeff Ekstein, stated that the new standards would be a great help to employers because they would allow them to evaluate the abilities of current and new workers. This evaluation would then prove invaluable in determining what, if any, training or development was necessary in making sure an employee performs at his peak ability. According to Ekstein, these new standards also have a second benefit: use in the development of curriculum at universities and training institutes.
The origin of these new standards emerged from the Print industry’s areas of prepress, press, and then finishing and bindery. Subsequently, skill standards in the area of production support were included as an after touch. Currently, the CPISC is underway developing standards for production support, with a tentative release date of late 2011.
Printing companies in Brampton would do well to make sure to follow the CPISC’s new standards. After all, they were drawn up to help increase employee productivity, which all businesses should strive to achieve.
