Brampton Senior Presents Artwork to Legion

The president of the Royal Canadian Legion has been presented with a painting of a famous world War II aircraft by Brampton, ON resident Gabe Fernandes.

Mr Fernandes, 76, belongs to the Knightsbridge Senior Centre’s art club. His painting is of the Halifax bomber which flew in World War Two - a heavy bomber which had four engines and saw lots of service. The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and the Royal Air Force (RAF) flew the Halifax bomber, and many veterans will recognize and remember the bomber.

Mr Fernandes said:
“Some three years ago, I had some of my works displayed at city hall and at that time one of the city managers came up to me and told me the Royal Canadian Legion’s Branch 15 would love a painting of the Halifax bomber.
"It seems, quite a few of their members flew the Halifax bomber during the war.”

Fernandes researched the bombers as well as the pilots that flew them. They were the RCAF’s Snowy Owl Squadron. He then created a realistic replica on canvas.

The 30” x 20” framed artwork was presented to the president of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 15 Mike Henry Sr. on March 26th, and it is thought that it will be hung at the Mary Street Legion.

After retiring in 2002, Mr Fernandes became serious about creating his artwork. He was provided with much encouragement by the Knightsbridge Senior Centre.
Any artists in the area, such as Mr Fernandes, who wish to reproduce their work can use the talents of an experienced poster printing service in Brampton to do so.
