The Seedy Saturday movement encourages gardeners to save and swap seeds, and Brampton has plans in the works for such an event that will be all about sustainable gardening.
Seed saving is a practice that promotes and preserves biodiversity, and it can be easy to get involved, whether a person is interested in developing a new cultivar or just wants to save some money. The Brampton Horticultural Society’s Seedy Saturday and Garden Show will help them to do so, and everyone is welcome.
Those who plan on being part of the day can bring along fruit, veggie and flower seeds to exchange with the other green thumbs, and there will be presentations facilitated by local gardening experts on offer. Horticultural vendors will have an area set up, and refreshments may be purchased on site. There will be a special kids zone, and admission to the event is free.
The society is hoping that its 11th annual Seedy Saturday will be a big success. To thank the participants for their support, the first 100 through the door will receive a plant to take home. Identification and care tags, signage, booth decor and other items needed for such an event can all be prepared by area banner printing companies.
This salute to sustainable horticulture will be popping into the Century Garden Recreation Centre on March 11th. It is located at 340 Vodden Street East in Brampton.
