Part of living a sustainable lifestyle can be choosing to repair items that have broken rather than simply buying new ones. A Brampton event will put this theory into practice, and the organizers are hoping lots of community “fixers” will sign up to lend a hand.
For one day in April, an event will give new life to old appliances, electronics and even clothing by repairing them and teaching their owners some fix it tips as well. There will be no fee charged for this service, and since them items will be going back home instead of to the landfill, this can be an environmentally friendly option as well.
Those who have some special skills to share are encouraged to contact the organizers at 905-793-4636 extension 74261. They will discuss the opportunities available during the day for volunteers, as well as the times they will be needed and other details.
The planners of the morning explained that the Repair Cafe movement has been gaining momentum around the globe, and that being a “fixer” can be highly satisfying. A printing services company can play a role in making this sort of activity a success by supplying items ranging from T-Shirts for the volunteers to recyclable Flyers that can be posted throughout the community.
The Chinguacousy Branch of the Brampton Library will be offering space for the MakerSpace Brampton Repair Cafe on April 18. This free event is open to all.
