Youth and amateur musicians will come together for the Fredericton Music Festival this April.
An adjudicated competition, the festival features competitive and non-competitive classes in various instruments, genres, and age ranges. The best performers are recognized with prizes and the Awards of Excellence, which span across different competitions for piano and voice, as well as the strings and woodwinds instrument groups. The festival’s goals include promoting the study and appreciation of music in Fredericton and encouraging young musicians and composers.
The 2024 festival will feature a new Intermediate Level of Excellence award. Performers may be give specific compositions to play, or may be able to select their own pieces or even enter an original composition.
The festival focuses on classical instruments and compositions at a youth level, as well as having more open competitions. The top performers will be selected for a series of awards concerts on May 8 and 9. Amateur music competitions and festivals are often promoted using brochure printing and in-school programming, with the goal of kindling a love of music. The festival has a long history in Fredericton, going back to 1956. All workers and organizers involved in the festival are volunteers from the local community.
The 2024 Fredericton Music Festival is set to take place at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre from April 22 to 25.
