Winnipeg nature enthusiasts and anyone else who would like to brush up on their tree ID skills will soon have the opportunity to do so along with others who also enjoy the great outdoors.
CPAWS Manitoba’s Environmental Educator Carly Gray will be the guide for an outing to Crescent Drive Park that will explore native tree species and how to identify them. The participants will get practice using different ID tools, and passes can be purchased ahead of time.
The attendees in the hands-on activity will utilize both traditional and electronic identification tools, and everyone will receive a copy of a Manitoba Tree Field Guide they can keep and use to continue making discoveries on their own. The session is geared towards those who are just starting out, and everyone is asked to bring a phone or tablet so they can download the apps that will be used as well as a notepad and pen.
Learning about the natural world can be a lot of fun, and a walking workshop provides the chance to do so out in the field. Basic field guides and other educational materials can be crafted by Stationery printers.
This hands-on introduction to the art and science of tree ID will be running from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm on August 13th. Both children and adults are welcome.
