Winnipeg woman raises money for baby formula

A Winnipeg woman has shown just how much difference an individual can make when they decide to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Susan Krepart heard that Winnipeg Harvest was running very low on baby formula, and being a mom herself, she was very concerned. Instead of her worry being just a passing thought, she decided to do something about it.

She placed an appeal on her Facebook page asking for others to pitch in and either donate funds or formula. One of the first to respond was the Hay family, who had recently lost their son. They donated formula, and the campaign was soon named to honor the memory of the little boy, Magnus Hay.

Before long, the donations were pouring in, with everyone giving what they could. One local real estate firm matched the contributions with a pledge of $11,000.

All together, the drive raised $25,000 in cash and $10,000 worth of formula in just 15 days. The food bank is very grateful for the help, which has fully restocked its shelves for the first time. Unfortunately, with more than 1,500 young babies depending on it every month, stocks may soon run low again.

Each year, Winnipeg Harvest budgets $200,000 for the purchase of formula. All the funds raised by Krepart will be used to purchase this essential product.

The success of this campaign shows just how much of a difference one person can make when they decide to help. A Print company can also lend a hand by producing promotional materials to get the word out to as many people as possible.
