An exhibit at the Winnipeg’s Manitoba Museum will celebrate the achievements of one of the country’s icons.
Organizers of the ‘Terry Fox- Running to the Heart of Canada’ exhibition plan for it to be the most comprehensive display of items related to Fox, who had lost his leg to cancer and decided to run across the country to increase awareness of the disease, raising funds for research into finding a cure. He was able to cover 5,373 kilometers over 143 days before his cancer forced him to stop.
The Canadian Museum of History has partnered with his family to gather archived Print, photographic and audiovisual materials, artifacts and other items into a collection for the public to view. According to Terry’s brother, Darrell Fox, the family had been touched by the outpouring of support they received, and felt that the time had come to share this memorabilia with the world.
The exhibit officially opens on July 14th, and on August 1st it will mark Terry Fox Day with a variety of special activities, including an opportunity for visitors to create their own T-shirt with a Marathon of Hope. Representatives of CancerCare will be on hand to provide information about this group of diseases. Brochures and other informational materials can be prepared for events such as this.
More details and schedule of activities can be found on The Manitoba Museum’s website.
