A local research lab is leading the way when it comes to finding treatment and a preventative vaccine for one of the most deadly of diseases currently affecting humanity.
The Winnipeg National Microbiology Laboratory is conducting cutting-edge research into Ebola, and finding new ways to treat and even prevent it.
The facility was set up under the initial direction of Heinz Feldman, who was its first Special Pathogens Chief. His role was subsequently filled by Gary Kobinger. It is widely felt among the scientific community that they are largely responsible for its success. They fostered a spirit of cooperation and collaboration with of research labs.
The lab was built to replace the aging Health Canada facility in Ottawa, and was equipped to work with Level 4 pathogens, such as Ebola, that require strict safety protocols. This allows them to test for deadly diseases in Canada without having to send samples to the CDC in the USA.
A facility such as this requires a lot of printed Forms and documents. A printing company will be able to provide these.
The team working at the laboratory has developed an Ebola vaccine, and has donated 800-1,000 doses of it to be used in the current epidemic. They’ve also developed a mobile testing lab for use in the most remote areas, and also a drug that has shown great promise in treating the disease.Get a Free Quote for Forms
