What's Happening in Winnipeg, MB…

Winnipeg history buffs invited to tour Interlake region

The province of Manitoba is home to a large inland lake, and it is an important part of its cultural and natural heritage. The region around this body of water is home to many historic sites and other areas of interest, and a selection of these will be explored as part of a trip that will be departing from Winnipeg this June.

The Manitoba Historical Society has joined forces with the St. Francois Xavier Historical Society to organize a day for local history buffs. The tour will depart from the parking lot at the Grant Park Shopping Centre at 8:30 am and is scheduled to return at 8:15 pm.

The tour will visit several locations, including a site that was formerly the home of a colony of farmers. Stops at Steep Rock and Ashern are also on the agenda, and both lunch and dinner are included in the registration fee.

The group will travel in style in a luxury motorcoach, and Kevin Van Kamp will act as a guide. The registration fee is $113 each, and a special discount has been offered to Manitoba Historical Society members. Printed guides that provide further details about the different landmarks and other sites visited as part of a tour like this can be obtained from area print shops.

This guided visit to the western portion of Manitoba’s Interlakes Region will be setting out at 8:30 am on June 15. The ticket price include gratuities and entrance fees.
