Winnipeg happy to walk

This spring, The Canadian Association for Williams Syndrome will be hosting an afternoon of fun in Winnipeg that it hopes will both raise awareness and put a smile on the faces of everyone who takes part.

Everyone who would like to help support the cause while enjoying a day out in the fresh air and sunshine is welcome, and they walkers will gather at the picnic shelter in St. Vital Park before heading out. Williams Syndrome is a rare condition that is genetic and can lead to learning, social, medical and physical issues. It is caused by a deletion of a series of genes of chromosome 7.

As the participants walk, they will seek to raise awareness among the public about this syndrome, and upon their return, there will be a barbeque lunch and children’s entertainment to enjoy. The proceeds from the occasion will be used to help provide support and connection for families with a child living with Williams Syndrome, and also to aid them in receiving access to specialist care and advocating for their special needs. Materials produced by a local banner printing company can be used during an event like this to help make the public more aware of the cause.

June 3 has been chosen as the date for this opportunity to come out and support the Canadian Association for Williams Syndrome. More details, as well as a chance to register, can be found on the organizer’s website.
