Retirement time for Winnipeg Police canine
For at least two members of Winnipeg Police Services, this year will mark a career milestone.
For Patrol Sergeant Scott Taylor and his patrol dog Judge, it’s been a 10-year career marked with at least 500 tracking arrests, which makes them one of the most successful canine teams the services have ever had.
However, Judge is reportedly beginning to feel his age and is starting to slow down, which means it’s time for him to say goodbye to his police career and start his retirement days.
Sgt. Taylor has raised the dog since he was a puppy. He was trained in tracking, locating cadavers, catching subjects who were trying to flee, and also searching for narcotics, fire arms, and missing persons.
Over the years, the dog has sired 41 puppies, six of which are currently working with the police, and a seventh is due to start training soon.
Sgt. Taylor has decided that after such a long and successful partnership, it’s time for him to make a change as well. He has decided to take a place on the force’s investigations unit.
Whenever an officer, whether they are human or canine, retires from the force, a print company can create something special to help mark the occasion. They can create beautiful certificates of merit and other printed items that will be cherished for years to come.
