Manitoba’s Lake Winnipeg is facing an uncertain future, but thanks to a new initiative at Winnipeg’s Manitoba Museum, the public will soon have a chance to find out more about the problem in a hands on way.
The new $1 million “Lake Winnipeg: Shared Solutions” exhibit will explain the environmental issues surrounding the lake, with the main one being ‘eutrophication’ – the process where too many nutrients enter the lake and cause massive algal blooms. These block sunlight from reaching the lower depths of the water and reduce its oxygen levels to a point where it can no longer sustain aquatic life.
The displays show how this happens and what the sources of these nutrients may be. It offers practical advice that everyone can follow to help make a change.
One of the highlights is the $500,000 interactive game, where members of the public can try their hand at eliminating the problem. The options provided range from eliminating all sink garberators in the province to eliminating hog farms. The displays show what effect each action will have.
The goal of the exhibit is to raise awareness, and Print companies have a role to play in this; they can create signage for the exhibit, as well as custom printed promotional materials.
It is hoped that this permanent display will educate people about how they can work together to help keep the lake alive and thriving.Get a Free Quote for Print
