Families in Winnipeg are gearing up for this year’s Kidsfest, which comes to the area early next month.
The annual festival is an event geared solely towards children, with a wide variety of attractions, activities, and entertainment. The festival attracts participation from many different groups, celebrities, and local companies.
Headlining this year’s event is Step Africa, a troupe based in Washington D.C. that uses the art of stepping to entertain and share its message. Stepping utilizes the whole body as an instrument, creating sounds and rhythms through clapping, footsteps, and spoken word.
Kamikaze Fireflies will also be at the event, bringing their juggling, fire breathing, and contortionist acts to entertain attendees. Montreal’s Mat Velvet and Charlie Show will perform their acrobatic show in a giant wheel.
Celebrities on hand will include Eric Litwin, author of the very successful Pete the Cat Books, who will be playing his guitar, banjo, and harmonica as he sings songs and tells stories. The ever popular Fred Penner will also be performing along with his band, The Cat’s Meow.
Colourful banner printing and poster printing will no doubt draw attention to the various acts and activities on offer as tents and stages will be set up throughout the festival grounds.
Kidsfest will run from June 6 – 9 at The Forks and event coordinators have made sure that big top tents are on hand to provide shelter from the weather if necessary. Advance tickets can be purchased for $14. Admission at the gate will cost $16.
