A 65-year-old man recently finished a 4000-kilometer journey to raise funds for muscular dystrophy, taking the final steps of his efforts in Winnipeg.
According to local reports, since he embarked on his lengthy walk from Quebec city to Winnipeg, Bob Facca has kept on going, working to reach his goal of raising money to support research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy, which affects his grandson Louie. Facca was able to raise $750,000 for a group that is working to find a cure for this fatal disease.
While Facca could have taken the easier, straight route from Quebec, he wanted to go the long way. He detoured through Toronto and down to Windsor, then north to Sault St. Marie before starting the final leg that would take him to Winnipeg.
When he reached his destination, a celebration was waiting for him at Murray Chevrolet. His son, who knows the cousin of the dealership’s owner, had worked with him to arrange a party that included a live feed from Facca’s hometown of London, where his supporters were waiting to cheer his arrival.
