A team of holiday elves wearing bright blue hats recently got together to make the season happier for those in need in Winnipeg and the surrounding area.
These special helpers were WestJet employees who were taking part in the company’s day of good will. Their first stop was at Toad Hall Toys, where they gathered up a load of gifts. After that, they stopped by the Christmas Cheer Board’s Tower of Toys at the Forks to drop them off.
Their act of kindness went beyond just helping kids. They also paid a visit to the Siloam Homeless shelter, where they delivered warm mittens and scarves, and then served the patrons lunch. They had also made a pit stop at a bus shelter near Polo Park Shopping Centre, where they handed out snacks and a warm cup of hot chocolate to those waiting in the cold. Holiday Cards can be handed out along with the refreshments to help spread the word about the campaign and perhaps even encourage those who appreciate the kindly act to carry out some of their own.
They also visited an animal shelter to bring it is both supplies and to send some time playing with the pets who are waiting for a home.
Their efforts were part of a larger goal for WestJet employees of committing 12,000 individual acts of kindness, with one for each of its employees.
