Annual festival shows of the variety of cultures in Canada

The 45th annual Folklorama is taking place in Winnipeg for two weeks this August.

A variety of events and performances will be held at various venues throughout the city. More than 40 pavilions will be set up, each representing a different area of the world. Some of those are African/Caribbean, Brazilian, Portuguese, Italian, and Scottish. A printed travel guide, with a map, gives detailed information about the location and activities taking place at each pavilion.

The kick off to the festival is taking place this July at Scotiabank Stage at the Forks. It will feature children's activities, cultural demonstrations and performances, and a marketplace. The evening will be rounded off with a fireworks display.

People can visit as many pavilions as they want; each has a separate admission price. Tickets are $6 each or free for those aged 12 and under. Multiple tickets are available for $54 for 12 or $25 for 5. Those who wish to have a luxury experience can purchase VIP tickets for $69.95 to visit three pavilions or $54.95 for two. This will include transportation to each pavilion, priority seating, and a three course meal.

Banner printing companies in Winnipeg will probably be asked by organizers of several pavilions to provide banners.

Folklorama is being held from August 3rd to 16th. The kick-off event will take place on July 26th from 4:00pm - 11:00pm. For more information, call 204-982-6210.
