Airport route enhancement plans unveiled in Winnipeg

The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce has announced its intention to make sure visitors to the city are impressed when they leave the airport.

The new project calls for a SimTek fence, constructed of lightweight but tough plastic panels and stainless steel posts, to be placed along the sides of the road. This will be a huge improvement over the chain link fence and unsightly vacant garages that currently line the drive.

The proposed solution has been deemed viable by both the Chamber and city staff, and comes with a price tag of approximately $7 million. It is hoped that the majority of the cost will be covered by the federal, provincial and local governments, with private funding being used to purchase public art which will improve the scenery. One idea is to use light standard banners while also enhancing the existing lighting system.

In 1991, the city developed a route image strategy proposal that called for improvements to to be made to six different roads and highways, one of which was Route 90, leading to and from the airport. In 2004, the Chamber took up the project, but due to underground infrastructure and low power lines, coming up with a final plan was no easy task. Now, however, a solution seems to have been found.

When a city’s authorities decide to go ahead with a project such as this to revamp a portion of its transportation infrastructure, it provides an excellent opportunity for a banner printing company to help. A reputable firm can produce colorful items which are made from high quality, durable materials.
