Thousands Turn Out for Surrey BCs Local Annual Walk for Alzheimer Fundraiser

White Rock, BC, a small community in the vicinity of Surrey, BC saw thousands of supporters take to the streets in its annual Walk for Memories Campaign, which is dedicated to sufferers of Alzheimer's. The January 30, 2011 walk this year was dedicated to Doug McMorland, a local sufferer whose memory began to suddenly deteriorate while working as an electrician at Surrey Memorial Hospital. The Walk for Memories was also dedicated in honour to all sufferers of Alzheimer’s and their families.

The 70,000 strong turnout and roaring success of the fundraiser was made possible thanks to the number of volunteers, registrants and participants that gave up their time and got involved with the fundraising and coordination of the event. The walk, sponsored by the Alzheimers Society of BC, also takes place in other BC cities.

Methods of promoting the event included employing the services of poster and banner printing services in Surrey, who held drum up support for the walk. A 30 foot digitally printed 'Remember Wall' was also set up in the community. In addition to printed public service announcements, TeleStudios, the UBC's Centre for Digital Media also produced digital public service announcements to support the cause.

The event would not have been possible without the initiatives of Print companies local to Surrey and Vancouver, who not only helped advertise the event, but also printed the registration Forms that registrants used to sign up for the event on the day of the Walk for Memories.
