Surrey offers sneak peek into salmon life cycle

Each year, wild pacific salmon make their way up BC rivers to spawn, and a Surrey program that works to restore and protect the habitat they need for survival will be running a special event in early June.

Wild Salmon Day will be a time to learn about these iconic fish species and their life cycles. It is a project being undertaken by the Salmon Habitat Restoration Program, and all are welcome.

The day will give a sneak peek into the work being done to restore and enhance Healy Creek. Those who attend can stroll along the set trail, visiting information stations as they go. These will provide details about the fish and other species that call the creek home, as well as how water quality testing monitors its overall health. The activity will start at 3:00 pm and run for four hours.

Offering the public an opportunity to participate in educational events is one way an organization can create community buy in, which can play an important part of an environmental service project. A flyer printing company will be able to prepare marketing materials for such an activity, which may be useful when it comes to building the buzz.

Surrey will be celebrating Wild Salmon Day on June 1st. Queen Mary Park will be the venue for the occasion.
