Many people have sensory processing issues, and now they, along with anyone else who could benefit from a quieter environment, may want to check out an upcoming Surrey event.
A sensory friendly swim has been scheduled for early April, and, depending on the location, they will also take place in May and June. Four of the city's pools will be taking part, and each session will run for four hours.
The swims are open to both individuals and families, and along with the lowered noise and no background music, there will be no announcements made over the loudspeaker system. Signage will encourage everyone to use the paper towels instead of the noisy hand dryers, and there will be sensory friendly break rooms for anyone feeling overwhelmed.
There will be clear transition warnings and times, and extra staff will be on hand as well.
As an additional support for the families that use support devices, sensory friendly kits will be available upon request. These include communication cards, noise-cancelling headphones, sunglasses, ear plugs, and fidget toys. Tailored graphic design and other custom Print work can be sourced from a local printer.
Surrey’s schedule of sensory friendly swims are set for a variety of afternoons, and the city’s website provides a list of the participating venues as well as the dates for the activity. The sessions are open to Recreation Surrey Members as well as the general public.Get a Free Quote for Print
