Bonsai is a series of techniques used to control the growth of a tree or other plant so it stays small, and there will be two workshops on offer in Surrey that will help those who are new to this form of horticulture to hit the ground running.
The public that is interested can choose to register for the azalea or juniper session, and they may attend both if they wish. They will be able to take their plant home with them, and the learning will be hands-on.
The BC Bonsai Society’s Darren Melhus will share his skills and knowledge, and both classes are for the beginner. While Darren provides the instruction, the attendees can follow along with their own juniper or azalea, and both species have been chosen for their ease of care. Everyone will learn the basics of pruning, wiring and other methods that will control their plant’s growth, and all that's required is a pair of gloves. Tickets start at $70.00 for each workshop.
When organizing a class or other activity, planners may reach out to area Stationery printers as they will be able to provide copies of handouts and other materials. They may also be able to provide small Promotional Products to distribute.
