Surrey’s Canada Day, which was organized by John Donnelly & Associates and City of Surrey, was lauded in part because the event annually draws over 100,000 people to Surrey. The event on July 1 also featured big-name entertainers, international food, family-friendly activities and a fireworks finale. As the mayor of Surrey has stated:
“We’re very proud to be receiving local and national recognition for the festivals we host, and we owe our success to the tremendous support we receive from residents and the local business community.”
There were five categories in which awards were handed out. In addition to Most Outstanding Event, awards were given for Best Theme Décor under $15,000, Best Theme Décor over $40,000, Best Corporate Team Building Event and Best Media Event; there were over 30 nominees in all.
Winning the Most Outstanding Event brings province-wide and national attention to Surrey and will definitely contribute to making the city a tourist destination. Brochure printers can make sure to mention such an honour in the next publication to be place in tourist centres throughout the province. Knowing that it is an award winning event will also make entertainers more likely to want to participate in next year’s Canada Day celebrations.
