Surrey to make February a work of art

A couple of art-related events taking place in Surrey next month should be of great interest to local artists, whether they are established or just beginning.

The Sweethearts Artisan and Craft Fair is currently looking for artisans to sell and showcase their works. The deadline to enter is February 3 and all items must be original and handmade by the artist. Fees to enter are $40 for Arts Council of Surrey members or $60 for non-members.

Items expected to be offered for sale will include paintings, prints, clothing, jewelry and ceramics. The fair is free to enter and takes place February 7 – 9.

The Arts Council of Surrey is also holding the Silver Screen Classic competition and exhibition is challenging local artists to create works of arts inspired by the movies of the 1930s and 1940s. All works must be unframed and be sized at 18 x 24 feet.

Each artist can enter three pieces and the deadline is January 31. Works can be paintings on paper, drawings, prints, photographs and digital art. Each entry costs $10 a piece and artists will compete for four cash prizes ranging from $50 to $200. Winners will be informed on February 10, and all of the works will also be available for sale to the public.
The opening reception for this option is at 7:00 pm on February 18.

Both of these events may be of interest to those employed by printing companies in Surrey, who may find inspiration from some of the works. Contact the Arts Council of Surrey at 604-594-2700 for more info about either event.
