Residents of Surrey who care about the environment have been asked to lend a hand with a local service project, and while they work, they will be able to meet others who care about the natural world.
The Lower Mainland Green team has put out a call seeking assistance with an activity that will remove an invasive species, and as many hands make light work, it is hoping lots of people from the local area will register to take part. The Alouette River Management Society will also be involved, and all levels of ability and ages are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and join in. Full instruction will be provided.
The volunteers will be removing Himalayan blackberry plants from the park, and tools, gloves and refreshments will all be provided. Facilitators will be on hand to help with plant identification, and everyone will meet up at the venue’s south entrance. There is free parking nearby, and the site can be reached by public transit.
To thank the volunteers for their efforts, they will each go home with Corporate Gifts donated by a local sustainable business. More information about the activity and how to get involved can be found online.
This day of hands-on environmental stewardship is scheduled for March 25th. Everyone who has registered is asked to arrive by 9:45 am.
