Surrey museum to celebrate traditional textiles

The Surrey Museum will be hosting an event dedicated to the celebration of traditional fibre crafts.

A variety of displays will be set up to give visitors a chance to see for themselves the process of spinning yarn, weaving cloth and more. People will be able to try their hand at using a spinning wheel and loom in the facility’s Hooser Textile Studio, and staff and volunteers will be on hand to give tips and advice. Families can even create an easy-to-complete textile craft of their own to take home with them as a memento of their day.

To help bring the history of textiles in the city to life, the history preservation group The Re-enactors will be giving performances throughout the afternoon, and there will be other demonstrations related to cloth and clothing as well. Sign printing can be used to produce informational signage and other items for use during events such as this. These can help those who come to get the most from their time there.

The Fibre Arts and Crafts Festival is being offered on a drop-in basis on August 13. It will run from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm at the Surrey Museum, which is located at 17710 56a Avenue.

Further details about the event can be obtained by calling 604-592-6956 or by visiting the museum’s website.
