Quilting exhibition continues in Surrey

The residents of Surrey have until February to enjoy what the Fraser Valley Quilters Guild Exhibition has to offer.

The show features a wide variety of quilts, with both natural and pattern themes. Some of the techniques on display include embroidery, applique, thread painting, and needle punching. There will also be preemie quilts on show; these are created by members and donated to the Children's and Women's Health Center of BC.

A reception will be held for this and a number of other exhibits at the Surrey Art Centre in January.

In addition, the Guild is set to hold a workshop on January 18. Titled ‘Ocean's Dream Tote Bag’, it will be taught by Shelley Scott Tobisch at the Kennedy Senior's Centre in Delta. The cost is $30 for members or $40 for non-members; patterns are $12 and a kit is also available for $45 which includes the pattern, fabrics, zipper, and beads.

The group is also accepting donations of full-sized quilts to be donated to the 50 kids of the Somos Children's Village in Guatemala.

This non-profit group does a lot for the community and its events are often advertised throughout Surrey and Delta. When groups such as this need help with marketing materials, they usually turn to local printing companies for materials like Brochures and Flyers.

The Fraser Valley Quilters Guild Exhibition is taking place at the Surrey Arts Centre until February 9. The reception will be held on January 25. To find out more about this event, contact Lynne Fanthorpe at 604-521-5543.
