The 2nd annual Party for the Planet will take place at the Central City Plaza in Surrey on April 27-28. Admission is free and over 20,000 people are expected to attend the two-day festival.
There will be musical guests such as Down with Webster, children’s entertainers such as Bobs and Lolo and the Backyardigans, interactive displays on local environmental initiatives and vendors selling environmentally friendly products. The Community Stewardship Hub will feature “local community groups that steward Surrey’s natural spaces,” the Port Metro Vancouver Kids World will feature arts and crafts, face painting, henna tattoos and balloon artists, Toddler Town is a play area for children under four and their parents and the Community Corridor is an area where “local organizations and groups will showcase their work on critical issues in our community, present interactive events, and share stories of success.”
Most of the energy supplied for the Party for the Planet will be provided by solar and bicycle energy. All of their advertising and display materials such as Posters, Signs, Banners and sky flags will be made from completely recycled materials. Those will most likely be provided by Surrey printing companies who are committed to being environmentally friendly; they use inks made from vegetable oils, they use recycled papers and they dispose of dangerous chemicals safely.
