The Surrey Museum and the Surrey Honeybee Centre will be teaming up to bring an event to the public that will highlight the role these small insects play in the world, and also the honey they produce.
Designed to be a family friendly activity, it will offer those who come out a chance to find out more about apiarists and the work they do. They will be able try on a suit of the protective clothing worn by beekeepers when they are working with their charges, sample a variety of honeys to see if they can taste the difference, and even create a bee-themed craft.
In addition to the above activities, at both 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm, there will be a short presentation that gives more information about the vital role these winged insects play in pollination of food crops and other plants.
There is no charge to take part in the afternoon, but a donation would be welcomed. Flyers can be used to effectively promote events like this to the public, both in the local community and further afield as well.
Tales From the Honeycomb will take place on August 20 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Surrey Museum. It is located at 17710 56a Ave and further details can be found on the City of Surrey website, or by calling 604-592-6956.
