Wetlands pay a vital role in nature, and an upcoming Surrey event will help draw attention to their importance.
The city will be celebrating World Wetlands Day with a function organized by the Little Campbell Watershed Society. It will kick off the city’s February event calendar, and there will be lots of hands-on fun to be had.
The attendees will be able to meet a variety of people who work to help preserve and protect area wetlands, and they will find out why this is so important. They will also be able to meet an owl, see some wetland insects and try their hand at making a woven craft from cattails. The kids can sit in on a story reading from author Sherry McMillan, and guided nature walks, a salmon hatchery tour and other activities are all in the works.
An environmentally focused gathering may require printed materials, and a local printing services company can lend a hand. It can supply a range of options that are more friendly to the environment.
This chance for Surrey to show some love to local wetlands will be on offer on February 1st at the Semiahmoo Fish and Game Club. It is scheduled to run from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. Additional details are available on its listing on the City of Surrey website.
