Surrey workshop to put the spotlight on soil management

The Surrey Nature Centre will be hosting an event that will introduce those who take part to the important role soils play in the ecosystems that surround them.

The workshop will introduce attendees to what makes soil so vital and how it supports the trees and other vegetation that grows in it. They will also learn about the most current Best Management Practices (BMP) for Soil Management in the Urban Environment, which was recently released by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA).

It will discuss all aspects of how soil supports tree growth and health, and includes a trip to Bend in Oregon to see the best management practices in action in an urban environment. A Print company can be called upon to produce all of the materials needed for a course such as this.

The instructor for the day will be James Cassidy, who is a soils science instructor at Oregon State University (OSU). He has held this position for ten years, and is also the OSU organic growers club’s faculty advisor.

The course will take place on January 20, running from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm. Tickets start at $128 for PNW-ISA members, $144 for allied members and $160 for nonmembers. Students are offered a reduced price of $80 each.

Further information can be found on the ‘Soil! What it is and How it Works for Trees’ course Eventbrite page.
