The government has made an announcement that it hopes will alleviate congestion in Surrey’s schools.
Surrey is the fastest growing city in the province, and this has put a lot of pressure on its schools to accommodate an influx of new students. However, it was recently announced that improvements will be made to existing buildings and several schools will be constructed. This will add an additional 2,700 new students spaces to the city’s school system.
Some of this work will involve building additions to replace the portables that are currently being used to provide extra classroom space at several of the educational facilities across the area. The goal is for this to be completed by the time students are ready to return in September 2017.
In addition to this, two new schools will be built. Construction of Clayton North Elementary and Grandview Heights Secondary will start next year and are scheduled for completion in the next four years. Printed copies of the plans by the school district can be produced by a company that provides printing services, and made available to area parents and other members of the public who might wish to have one to read for themselves.
Currently, as many as 7,000 pupils in the city are taught in the portable classrooms, and the government has been consulting with officials from the Surrey school district to find solutions to this issue.
