Conference hopes to make cities fit for children

Surrey’s Cities Fit for Children Conference is taking place over two days next month with a theme of ‘Rights of the Child’.

The aim of the conference is to build safe and healthy communities for families. Kerry Constabile from UNICEF, Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts, Dr Trevor Hancock of the Child and Nature Alliance are set to appear along with a number of other speakers. The conference will also feature five workshop blocks from which participants can choose one session each.

The topics covered are set to include ‘Building Spaces to Nurture our Children’, ‘Child and Youth Friendy Metric’ and ‘The Free Public Library - Where Children and Teens come to Grow’.

Lunch and coffee breaks on both days will allow attendees to network with one another. It is expected that the conference will attract a variety of local, municipal and regional leaders from several fields. There will certainly be time to exchange Business Cards for those who inspire each other enough to keep in touch.

It's likely that those attending will receive printed conference materials provided to the organizers by Surrey printing companies. These will allow them to remember what was discussed and give them ideas on how to begin implementing what they learned.

The Cities Fit for Children Conference is taking place at the Sheraton Vancouver Guildford Hotel from November 21-22. Fees are $225 per person, which includes the price of lunch and breaks. For more information about conference events, call 604-591-4011.
