Assistance sought for Surrey environmental project

Invasive plants can be a problem in the environment in that they take over habitat and may not provide food or shelter needed by native birds and other animals. A call has therefore been put out to the people of Surrey to come and do their part in removing them.

Locals of all ages are invited to join a Nature Work Party and get their hands dirty. No experience is needed, and those who participate will be given training to help them learn which plants to remove and which can stay.

The group will be working in Hazelnut Meadows Community Park, and all of the tools and other materials needed to complete the project will be supplied. Refreshments will also be provided, and taking part in the activity may earn the helpers volunteer hours. There is no registration fee, and as many hands can make light work, the more people who sign up the more of an impact the event will have.

This opportunity to help build and maintain the city's urban forest will run for two hours, and anyone who would like more information has been asked to contact 604-501-7687. Local Stationery printers can supply everything from signup sheets to informational publications that can help to make an event like this a big success.

Hazelnut Meadows Community Park will be hosting this activity on Saturday, December 1. The agenda calls for it to begin at 10:00 am.
